Aaron Taylor

Aaron holds a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Chemistry and Bachelor of Laws for the University of New England. He began his legal career in 2010 and became a director of Taylor & Whitty in 2017.

As a generalist solicitor, Aaron has extensive experience in a number of areas of law. This helps to be able to provide a broad perspective and to be able to identify numerous legal issues across different areas of law. His primary areas of practice are commercial law, property, wills and estates and criminal law.

Aaron has extensive knowledge of commercial and property law. He regularly acts for clients’ in the sale and purchase of residential, commercial and rural property. He has extensive experience in preparing, giving advice and negotiating high value property transaction, business transactions and leases (both rural and commercial). Aaron regularly deals with rural water in both Victoria and NSW. He has a solid knowledge foundation on stamp duty implications, exemptions and concessions in both NSW and Victoria.  By ensuring all matters are appropriately discussed and considered prior to entering into a transaction, Aaron can maximise the benefits to his client.  Aaron regularly works in matters involving intergenerational farm transfers, trusts and superannuation funds.

He has a wide range of experience having represented clients in civil litigation matters ranging from contractual disputes, negligence claims, estate disputes and challenges to government decisions.  He regularly instructs Counsel in the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and District Court/County Court in Victoria and NSW. Aaron has also appeared as an advocate in the Magistrates Court of Victoria, the Local Court of NSW, the Victorian Commercial and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) and the NSW Commercial and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).

Aaron regularly seeks grants of probate and letters of administration from the Supreme Courts in both Victoria and NSW. He has acted for clients’ in both commencing and defending family provision claims in both Victoria and NSW. In having this experience, Aaron is also able additional insight to persons drafting their own wills and the options available to them to mitigate potential family provision claims. In addition to this, Aaron regularly drafts complex wills taking into account trusts, businesses and superannuation. Aaron was involved in the following cases:

  • Tulloch (deceased) v Braybon & Ors (No. 2) [2010] NSWSC 650 – The firm acted for a client who successfully defended a claim that a gift (being a 50% share in a racehorse) was not valid, or if it was valid, that the gift was made due to undue influence.
  • Horne v James [2015] NSWSC 465 – The firm acted for clients who successfully defended a claim of specific performance to sell land and water to the Plaintiff at a particular price.

In addition to this, Aaron is an admitted solicitor in England and Wales.
